Afriyie Akoto, Minister Of Agriculture, Resigns

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has submitted his resignation. he’s a Ghanaian agricultural economist and politician.

He is a member of the New Patriotic Party and served as a Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso Constituency in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region for two terms from 2009 to 2017.

Prior to his appointment as Minister of Food and Agriculture in 2017, he served in Parliament as Deputy Ranking Member and then substantive Ranking Member of the Committee on Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs.

On Tuesday, January 10, he sent his resignation letter to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.

Upon receiving the resignation, President Akufo-Addo sent his best wishes for the former official’s future endeavours.

Dr. Akoto’s resignation follows the Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen’s, departure from the administration a few days ago so that he could focus on his Presidential ambitions. He intends to run for president in 2024, That is why he’s retiring to focus on building the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as its presidential candidate.

He isn’t the only one competing for the NPP leadership; Kwabena Agyapong, Kennedy Agyapong, Joe Ghartey, and Boagye Agyarko have all made public declarations of their candidacy as well. However, the party has not yet announced a date for the presidential primaries.
