Black Stars to Pay Special Tribute to Christian Atsu During Angola Match

The Black Stars of Ghana are set to honour their fallen hero Christian Atsu during the game against Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the first leg of their AFCON double-header qualifier.

Henry Asante Twum, the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) communications director, has verified this while speaking to reporters recently on Original FM during their Super Sports Show.

“All the Black Stars players are very sad about Christian Atsu’s death and the Black Stars will surely honour their late member Christian Atsu Twasam during our AFCON qualifier against Angola,” Henry Asante Twum mentioned.

Ghana will face Angola in a doubleheader qualifier for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as scheduled by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Black Stars will take on the Palancas Negras in the opening encounter on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium while the return match will be played at Estadio 11 de Novembro on March 27, 2023.

Ghana is presently leading Group E with four points. In their prior games, they defeated Madagascar 3-0 and drew 1-1 with the Central African Republic.

The Black Stars’ two games against Angola will be Chris Hughton’s first actual challenge since being named as their new coach lately.

Tru News Report recalls that after a lengthy discussion between the two sides, the Ghana Football Association has chosen Chris Hughton to lead the Black Stars. Following Ghana’s elimination from the Doha 2022 FIFA World Cup, Otto Addo resigned as the team’s head coach. Hughton was chosen to replace him.

After being named in March, Addo led the group with help from George Boateng, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, and Hughton acting as the group’s technical advisor. Hughton will take over as the Black Stars’ next manager, the Ghana FA has confirmed, more than a month after the position first became vacant.
