Celine Dion Cancels World Tour Due To Health Issues
The remaining dates of Celine Dion’s world tour have been cancelled owing to the singer’s health difficulties according to a series of trending news circulating on the internet.
“It is with tremendous disappointment that we have to announce today the cancellation of the Courage World Tour,” Dion, 55, wrote on Instagram.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 forced Dion to cancel performances, the tour had been completed on 52 dates. In 2021, when businesses started to resume operations, Dion shot the movie “Love Again.”
The European portion of the tour, however, had to be postponed after she disclosed towards the end of 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological condition.
“I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%,” the post continued.
“It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”
According to a press release she provided in her Instagram post, she was unable to prepare for the upcoming events because she is currently putting a lot of effort into her recuperation. The shows were scheduled to start in the Netherlands in August and go through the spring of 2024.
The announcement states that all 42 cancelled dates’ tickets would be refunded. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, stiff-person syndrome causes people to become rigid, with increased sensitivity to sound and touch which can also cause muscle spasms. Patients may also adopt “hunched over and stiffened” postures as a result.
Following her victory at the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, which pitted artists from several nations against one another, Dion’s career lasted decades. She started a well-liked residency in Las Vegas after establishing herself as an iconic power ballad performer with five Grammy victories.
Dion has had to postpone concert dates before. In 2014, she announced she was battling an illness that caused inflammation in her throat muscles and also had to care for her husband Rene, who had cancer. (He died in 2016.)
Dion said in a statement at the time it had been “a very difficult and stressful” time for the family and she needed to postpone shows from her Caesars Palace residency and cancel Asia tour dates.
