Chief Justice Pays Courtesy Call On Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

The 15th Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Araba Essaba Torkornoo, has officially met the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, she went to the Manhyia Palace with other high-ranking officials of the judiciary to pay respect to Otumfuo and officially inform him of her new position as head of the Judiciary.

The Appointment Committee of Parliament interrogated Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo on Friday, May 26, 2023, as part of the crucial vetting process before her appointment as Chief Justice. She was subsequently approved by Parliament and sworn into office by President Akufo-Addo.

Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, originally from Winneba in the Central Region, is the third female Chief Justice in Ghana.

Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo (Mrs.) joined the Judicial Service in 2004 as one of the first Justices of the High Court’s Commercial Division. She has been involved with the Judicial Service of Ghana (JSG) and its main reform agenda and operations since 2005.
