Coup Trial: Six Sentenced To Death By Hanging, ACP Agordzo, Two Others Acquitted

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dr. Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo, who stood trial with eight others for his alleged role in a coup plot, has been acquitted. ACP Agordzo was found not guilty of the charge of abetment after a full trial.

However, six others, including military officers, who were part of the accused, were found guilty of their respective roles and sentenced to death by hanging. The verdict was delivered by a panel of three judges presided over by Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe.

The second accused, Donya Kafui alias Ezor, and the third accused, Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu alias Bright Alan Yeboah, were found guilty of conspiracy to commit high treason and high treason.

The fourth accused, Yohannes Zikpi, Warrant Officer Class Two Esther Saan Dekuwine, the only female among the accused, and Lance Corporal Ali Solomon, the eighth accused, were found guilty of conspiracy but not guilty of high treason.

All six have been sentenced to death for offending the Constitution. On the other hand, Corporal Seidu Abubakar, the seventh accused, was found not guilty of conspiracy for high treason and high treason. Colonel Kodzo Gamelie was also acquitted of the charge of abetment.
