Food And Drugs Authority Destroys More Than ₵260,000.00 Worth Of Contaminated Goods In Wa

Over the weekend, the Upper West Regional office of the Food and Drugs Authority FDA and the Pharmacy Council in Wa destroyed ₵261,701 worth of unsafe food and medicine.

The FDA will no longer allow the sale of a wide variety of products between January and December of 2022, including tomato paste, bottled water, drinks, and traditional and herbal medicinal products.

Mr Kelvin Dafaari Sungkpal, the acting Upper West Regional Director of the FDA, told reporters at the dumping site at Kampaha near Wa that the products were taken from stores, pharmacies, and other medical stores in the area during a regular surveillance exercise. 

He said that the sale of unclean items in the area was worrying, but that things had gotten better in recent years compared to the number of unclean items on the market before the FDA came to the area. 

Through public education and other normal FDA initiatives, people are developing the habit of checking the expiration date and physical condition of items before purchasing them. As this was a violation of the Public Health Act, he recommended store owners stop selling unwholesome items to naive consumers. he noted.

He told them that if they were caught selling unhealthy things, their goods would be taken away and destroyed, and they would also have to pay administrative and other fees. He also advised people to be careful about what they bought at the market so they wouldn’t eat harmful foods that could potentially harm their health and the health of their families.
