Gosh! I’ll Never Forget- Ashanti Recounts With Excitement How She Got Biggie’s Vocals For Her ‘Unfoolish’ Song

Ashanti says she’s grateful to the late iconic rapper, Notorious B.I.G. for his contribution to her breakthrough hit “Unfoolish” released some twenty years ago.

The former Murder Inc. musician visited Debut Live on Monday, December 19, and discussed her 20-year career.

She spoke about her excitement when she got Biggie’s vocals from his single “Fuck You Tonight” for her song that made her famous.

“Gosh I’ll never forget. We went down to the office – this is when Harve [Pierre] was down in the basement. That’s where all the B.I.G. stuff was. I remember going down there and it felt like we had like, a prize. You know? It was his vocals!

“And the fact that they gave us the okay to use his verse… And again, me being a new artist. You know, I haven’t sold any records yet. The fact that they gave us his verse was an amazing accomplishment.”

Speaking on the downside of her career, Ashanti said things have always not been rosy for her.

During her appearance early this month on ‘The Breakfast Club’ Ashanti narrated an unpleasant experience she encountered with one producer.

“I’ve been in a crazy situation with one producer. I think I might have talked about this once. We did two records together and he was like, I’m not gonna charge you, you my homie. Then when it came time to put it on the album, he was like, let’s take a shower together. I thought he was joking! And then he was like, ‘Nah, I’m dead serious. Let’s take a shower together and I’ll give you the records. If not, I need 40 racks per record.”

According to Ashanti, she thought he was joking because they had been working together for just a couple of weeks.
