Henry Cavill Stars in War Drama, ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’

Henry Cavill, the star of The Witcher and Superman, is leading a new film from director Guy Ritchie, a war drama based on a true story. The film, titled “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” tells the tale of a secret British World War II organisation that waged irregular warfare against the Nazis.

Cavill plays Gus March-Phillipps, the leader of a covert unit called the Special Operations Executive (SOE), which was formed by Winston Churchill and James Bond author Ian Fleming. The SOE recruited and trained agents to conduct sabotage, espionage, and assassination missions behind enemy lines. The film focuses on one of their most daring operations, Operation Postmaster, which involved the kidnapping of three enemy ships from a neutral port in West Africa.

The film also stars Eiza González as March-Phillipps’ love interest, Alan Ritchson as a Danish commando, Alex Pettyfer as a British spy, Hero Fiennes Tiffin as a young Fleming, and Henry Golding as a Chinese spy. The film is co-written by Ritchie himself, along with Paul Tamasy, Eric Johnson, and Arash Amel. The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Black Bear Pictures, and distributed by Lionsgate.

The film is described as a “thrilling and humorous” action-adventure that pays tribute to the classic war movies of the past while also offering a fresh and modern perspective on the genre. The film is expected to showcase Ritchie’s signature style of fast-paced storytelling, witty dialogue, and stylish visuals, as well as Cavill’s charisma and action skills.

The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on April 19, 2024. A teaser trailer was released on February 7, 2024, which showed Cavill’s March-Phillipps briefing his SOE team on their mission, as well as some glimpses of the action sequences and the exotic locations.
