The people of Assin Central in the Central Region have expressed their dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after their preferred candidate, Kennedy Agyapong, lost to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s primaries.
They have therefore vowed to teach the party a lesson in the upcoming 2024 elections by voting skirt and blouse or not voting at all. According to the residents, Agyapong is the best candidate to manage Ghana and restore hope in the country amidst economic difficulties and high unemployment rates.
Some have also raised concerns that President Akufo-Addo’s support for Bawumia may result in him pulling the strings behind the scenes if he is elected.
“Kennedy Agyapong has struggled for the NPP, and yet they could not reward him for his sacrifices. I will not vote in the 2024 general elections,” a resident said as quoted by Rainbow Radio.
Another said, “I have no trust in Bawumia. This current government is corrupt; it has engaged in theft, corruption, and mismanagement. They want to continue to steal, and that is why they have brought Bawumia. All the ministers and other appointees supported Bawunia because they wanted to continue their stealing. Kennedy Agyapong is not like them. and so they do not want him to lead them”.
“I am a dedicated member of the NPP and worked for the party. I have my certificate with me. I have worked for the NPP since 2015, and I know what I’m talking about. Without Kennedy, I will not vote in the general elections”, a mother told the news team.
A trader who also expressed her disappointment said the economic situation in the country was unbearable, adding that Ghanaians are unable to buy as they used to.
“We are struggling as a youth. I have decided not to vote in the elections. People are no longer buying like they used to in the past; Ghanaians are struggling, especially the youth.”
