Kendrick Lamar Disses Drake And J. Cole On Future And Metro Boomin’s ‘Like That’

Kendrick Lamar has sent some fiery shots at Drake and J. Cole in a recent song. In his featured verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s latest song “Like That,” the rapper takes aim at his once friends turned rivals.

Starting off his verse with a bold statement, Kendrick references Drake and Cole’s track “First Person Shooter” from Drake’s album For All the Dogs: “No more sneak disses, ‘First Person Shooter,’ I hope they brought their A-game.”

This lyric directly addresses Cole’s claim on “First Person Shooter” of being the toughest MC among the self-proclaimed Big Three of their era. “Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?” he spits. “We’re the Big Three like we founded a league, but at this moment, I’m feeling like Muhammad Ali.”

Cole also makes a subtle reference to Kendrick’s latest album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, as he raps, “Everyone’s stepping, well, forget it, then everyone’s having breakfast and I’m about to finish my meal.”

In a similar vein, Drake completely excludes Kendrick from the discussion of the Big Three, stating, “Who’s the greatest of all time? Who’s the greatest of all time? Who’s the greatest of all time? Who are you really rooting for? Like a child who misbehaves from January to November, it’s just you and Cole, my friend.”

Kendrick, on the other hand, continues to reference two of Cole’s songs, “Stick” and “PTSD.” He declares, “If he walks around with that stick, it’s not Andre 3K. Do you think I won’t reveal his location? I still have PTSD. Forget about the Big Three, it’s just me, man.”

Kendrick proceeds to criticize Drake for frequently comparing himself to Michael Jackson. Simultaneously, the rapper from Compton draws parallels between his own longevity and contributions to music and those of Prince.

“Prince outlived Michael Jackson,” Kendrick scoffs, “You’re just a nobody before all your friends are buried. With all these guns, it’s like a massacre waiting to happen.”

It is important to note that while Kendrick and Drake have been exchanging subtle insults for almost a decade, Kendrick and Cole have occasionally collaborated, sparking rumors of a joint album for years. Ultimately, hip-hop is a competitive genre, and any MC striving for the top spot will have something to say about their peers.

Kendrick famously expressed this sentiment back in 2013 on Big Sean’s “Control,” rapping, “I have love for all of you, but I’m here to annihilate you.”
