Lumba Didn’t Pay Me For Popular Akufo-Addo Campaign Song – Female Singer

Ghanaian vocalist Yvonne Ohene Djan has recently been revealed as the mastermind behind numerous popular Ghanaian songs, including the politically charged track ‘Nana Ye Winner’ by legendary Highlife musician Daddy Lumba.

AJ Sarpong shed light on Yvonne’s remarkable talent, known by her stage name SHE, and has recognized her as the driving force behind a wide range of hit songs spanning various genres, from Hiplife to Highlife.

SHE has proudly shared her contribution to Nana Akufo Addo’s campaign song, which undoubtedly played a significant role in boosting his popularity during the 2016 elections.

Despite her invaluable contributions, SHE revealed that she never received financial compensation from Lumba or the politicians for whom the songs were created.

In a rush to catch a flight to the US, SHE initially intended to decline Lumba’s request for assistance with one final song. However, Lumba managed to persuade her to stay and lend her voice to the project which turned out to be a masterpiece.

“It’s like radio, you can’t say that you won’t listen to the radio because you’re Christian or Muslim; radio is radio. Just like me, music is music. I enjoyed it,” she said.

However, she added that President Akufo-Addo later asked her to come for her payment when he met her at Kwabena Kwabena’s wedding ceremony in 2012.

“Nana actually told me the day he met me at Kwabena’s wedding to come for my payment. Even his wife commended me for the song. He wanted to honour me, but I couldn’t go but I will go for it,” she stated.

Despite the potential backlash that celebrities face when aligning themselves with political parties in Ghana, SHE explained that she viewed music as a universal language that transcends political affiliations.

“It’s like radio. Every religion listens to radio. You cannot say you won’t listen to radio because you are a Christian. I do music so once you will pay me for singing for you, I do not have any problem. I really enjoyed it,” she added.
