Months after what has been described as the most thrilling World Cup finals ever, Lionel Messi has shed light on the epic clash his country Argentina had with France in the grand finale at Qatar 2022.
Lionel Messi complimented his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe for his hat-trick in the World Cup final, calling it a ‘breathtaking’ match and mentioned that although his mercurial opponent scored three goals, it’s ‘crazy’ that he couldn’t lift the trophy.
“It really was a breathtaking final, it’s crazy how the match went. Kylian’s performance was great too. Scoring three goals in a final and not being able to be a champion was something crazy,” Messi told PSG’s YouTube channel.
“But he’s already won it too, he knows what it is to be world champion. But it was a beautiful final for the world of football. And now it’s nice to be able to play for the same team and hopefully, we can do great things in Paris,” he added.
Despite Mbappe’s hat trick in one of the greatest World Cup displays ever, Argentina defeated France on penalties. And three months after the game, Messi praised his PSG teammate for putting on a strong performance on a big platform.
Additionally, after a string of spectacular displays in Qatar, Messi won his first World Cup and was named player of the competition.
