According to a Graphic Online report, just hours before a critical vote on the government’s revenue bills, Mohammed Hardi Tuferi, the member of parliament for Nanton, was tragically involved in a car accident on Friday night.
Despite the setback, the Majority Caucus MP was able to arrive at Parliament via ambulance, report to the House leadership, and then be taken directly to a hospital for treatment.
Despite this unanticipated development, Parliament proceeded with the vote and approved all three revenue measures with a slim 136–137 majority.
The three bills in question, the Growth and Sustainability Amendment Bill, the Excise Duty Amendment Bill, and the Income Tax Amendment Bill, are projected to add about GH4 billion in annual domestic income.
Concern has been expressed by the MP’s constituents and peers regarding the accident. There will be more updates on this news in subsequent reports on Tru News Report.
