Nigeria Election: Okada Rider Wins House Of Reps Seat On The Ticket Of Labour Party

Donatus Mathew, a candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has been named the Federal House of Representatives Kaura Constituency victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to the sources in Nigeria, the first LP candidate to win a congressional position in the 2023 Reps election is Matthew, an Okada rider. Hon. Gideon Lucas Gwani, the incumbent member and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), finished in second with 10,297 votes, according to the returning officer, Prof. Elijah Ella.

According to Prof. Ella, the All Progressive Congress (APC) nominee received 9,919 votes, while the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) candidate received 5,354 votes, placing third and fourth, respectively.

The member-elect, Mathew, thanked the electorate for placing their trust in him to represent them in the Green Chamber in a statement to newsmen soon after it was announced that he had won the election.

However, he promised to work with everyone to achieve the desired success while also pleading for their help and collaboration. He reportedly turned to race okadas when things didn’t go his way after his tenure as a councillor.

A local source said: “Mathew didn’t do much campaign, he has few posters, he was once a councilor during Makarfi era, but later things went bad for him. He picked up Okada business, today he’s going to the Federal House of Reps. This is what Labour Party represents. It’s party for all, no preferential treatment.”

The incumbent legislator who is also the Minority Whip in the House of Representatives, Mr. Gideon Lucas Gwani, congratulated the member-elect and wished him well.
