Nigerian Stars Davido, Wizkid, And Asake Nominated for South African Amapiano Awards

South Africa’s Amapiano Music Awards have announced that Wizkid, Davido, Asake, and Goya Menor have all been nominated for awards in 2023.

The second annual South African Amapiano awards will be coming on live at the Sun Bet Arena, Time Square, Menyln Pretoria on Sunday the 2nd of April 2023.

The “Amapiano” style of House music that originated in South Africa swept the globe during the pandemic and has maintained strong international growth ever since. Since then, the exciting sound has spread over Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Kenya, and all over Africa, becoming a staple on dance floors and in DJs’ sets. Since then, several popular songs by Nigerian singers have included the distinctive style and flavor of Afrobeats.

This year, the South African Amapiano awards honor international artists like Wizkid, Asake, Davido, and Goya Menor who have contributed to the genre.

DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small released Sponono in 2020. It was an Amapiano song with Wizkid and Burna Boy on it. Wizkid was also on Kabza De Smalls’s Need You Tonight in 2020, and in 2021, Davido worked with Focalistic on the remix of Ke Star, which was a hit for him in 2020.

Since it came out, Nigerian artists have been riding the modified Amapiano waves, making it the most popular music style in Nigeria right now.

DJ Qness, CEO of the South African Amapiano Awards, said, “The South African Amapiano Awards are one of South Africa’s most-anticipated music awards. They aim to honor the best Amapiano artists.” As part of our mission to bring Amapiano to the world, we will continue to push the boundaries and show how African music and culture are changing the world.
