Sperm Traders Who Collect And Sell Used Condoms in Ghana Claims Many of Their Clients Are Pastors

After hearing something seemingly unbelievable for the first time in 2017, it took the courage of a journalist to explore his interest in what is now a growing sperm-collecting industry in the nation.

In an article for TV3, titled “Sperm Merchants,” the reporter investigated how prostitutes have expanded their trade to include the sale of discarded condoms. Most of these women, who are mostly located in the Greater Accra, Upper West, and Ashanti regions, have created profitable business relationships with criminal groups and ritualists in exchange for used condoms.

According to one of the ladies who spoke to the TV3 reporter, the gang is so well-organized that some hotels’ cleaning staff works as their suppliers.“I have hotels in Accra where the cleaners supply me with used condoms, and I tip them because I make a lot of money from the sale of used condoms,” she said. 

The fact that these ladies said that many of their clients are pastors was even more disturbing. Kiki, one of the women, spoke about where these “men of God” receive their supplies, emphasizing that she had just dropped off a package with one of them before heading for the interview.

In addition, she admitted that she has strengthened her spiritually because of the dangerous nature of her work. She would gladly deliver used condoms whenever requested, as long she was being compensated for doing so.

“Whenever I travel to Kumasi, people approach me for used condoms containing sperm. ‘I don’t know what they use them for, but I sell them because they pay me,’ she said.
