Super Bowl LVII: Chiefs Beat Eagles

After a thrilling comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35, the Kansas City Chiefs became NFL champions for the second time in four seasons.

The Chiefs, who were slight underdogs in Super Bowl LVII in Phoenix, Arizona, trailed for the majority of the game and were down 27-21 going into the final period.

But veteran coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was hobbling after re-injuring his ankle, plotted a comeback in front of 67,827 fans at State Farm Stadium.

Philadelphia had a huge advantage in time of possession, and quarterback Jalen Hurts had a career day (he threw for over 300 yards and ran for three touchdowns), but Patrick Mahomes single-handedly won the game for Kansas City in the second half.

Two touchdown passes from Mahomes to Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore gave Kansas City the lead for the first time. Mahomes was named the league’s Most Valuable Player for a second time last week. After Eagles quarterback and record-holder Jalen Hurts ran for three touchdowns and converted the two-point attempt, the score was tied.

But with eight seconds left, Harrison Butker kicked a game-winning field goal from 27 yards out thanks to a heroic run by Mahomes.

Mahomes, who is only 27 years old, won the regular-season MVP award, the Super Bowl, and the Super Bowl MVP all thanks to his stellar play. Aside from his three touchdown passes, Mahomes’ stat line was unremarkable: 21 of 27 for 182 yards. The Chiefs’ offense was held in check for the majority of the game.
