Desmond Elliott, a former popular Nollywood actor who became a politician, has been elected to represent the Surulere constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly. He is a member of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).
On Saturday (yesterday), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ran elections for governor and state assembly members across Nigeria.
Elliott easily beat Adebayo Bode of the Labour Party (LP), who got 7,822 votes, but only got 17,837 votes himself. This is Elliot’s third straight triumph in a parliamentary election. Thompson Sulaimon Abolaji of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came in third with 1,045 votes.
However, certain polling locations that had technological issues have been rescheduled until Sunday 19th March, 2023.
He has been in the bad books of Nigerians, especially his colleagues, due to comments he’s made in parliament over the years. Netizens, including some of his fellow politicians, pledged to vote him out of office.
In a video that went viral, Desmond Elliott was seen celebrating with his fans and saying how thankful he was and how happy he was about his win. He was seen in a celebratory mood, giving “high-fives” to some of his fans and mocking his critics, who wished for his defeat in the contentious election.
