Stonebwoy Talks About Why VGMA Banned Him After His Clash With Shatta Wale
Ghanaian Afropop, dancehall, and reggae musician Livingstone Etse Satekla, better known by his stage name Stonebwoy, has brought up his fight with Shatta Wale at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards again.
During an interview, On New York’s The Breakfast Club on Power FM, he admitted that he has always taken a defensive stance whenever he feels threatened. However, Stonebwoy stated that he would not sit idly by as Shatta Wale and his crew attempted to mount the VGMA platform while he got his award.
“Naturally, I am quickly defensive, what it was that, we have been having this beef for years. I don’t even know where it is stemming from but that is how that brother moved at that period attacking everybody, to step on that stage to do whatever was not something we were going to accept and if he came alone then we could probably understand.” he said.
Stonebwoy was in the middle of collecting his fifth consecutive Reggae/Dancehall musician award when Shatta Wale made his way up there. ” I was picking up my award for winning Reggae/Dancehall artist for the fifth time in a row and I think he couldn’t take it so he had to storm the stage, he came with a lot of people”
Following their incident at this year’s VGMAs, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale were banned from ever performing at the awards show again.
In the ensuing fight, Stonebwoy pulled out a firearm. In a later statement, Shatta Wale promised to offer his congratulations to Stonebwoy.
Meanwhile, after the fight, both parties were ordered to return any trophies or plaques they had been presented with.
The board has decided to reconsider its ban on Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy in preparation for the 2021 performance.
However, they did not turn in any projects that year. Stoneboy did submit his work that year (2022), and he was named Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year. But Shatta Wale didn’t follow suit.
