Two Confirmed Dead in Galamsey Pit Collapse At Amenfi

Tragedy struck at Wassa Amenfi in the Western Region as two illegal miners lost their lives and others sustained injuries when a hill near their mining site collapsed on Monday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were trapped under the rubble for three hours before an excavator arrived at the scene to clear the debris for their rescue.

Patrick Opoku, the Assembly member for the area, revealed in an interview with Starr News that approximately forty individuals were working in the pit when the collapse occurred.

“When they heard that the pit was about to collapse, all of them ran away, but Bismarck and that lady could not escape, and the pit collapsed on them. As Bismarck and Abena attempted to run, the bulk load at the top fell on them and buried them,” Opoku explained.

The bodies of the two deceased have been taken to the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital mortuary, while the injured miners are currently undergoing treatment.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident as the community grapples with the consequences of this Galamsey pit collapse.
