We Christians Can Build Our Own Cathedral – Kwabena Agyapong

Kwabena Agyapong, a stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed amazement at the problems that have arisen during the building of Ghana’s National Cathedral.

It surprises him that the administration is so set on spending public money for the Cathedral, he says.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, Agyapong stated in an interview with JoyNews available to Tru News Report” that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had not indicated that state funds would be utilized for the project.

“I’m surprised about issues about the National Cathedral. because first and foremost in my view, I thought this was a private project… when the president said that I thought he was going to call on us Christians to make contributions” he said.

“We have been building our own Cathedrals… So, I think that if the president calls on us Christians, we can make contributions so that we don’t need to take money out of our budget. We are stressed enough, dealing with the difficulties that we are facing”.

Similarly to how the National Mosque was funded by Muslims, former NPP national secretary Kwabena Agyapong has advocated for the construction of a National Cathedral to be paid for by Christians.

“And I think as a Christian I will like to see a National Cathedral, there is a National Mosque but by we the Christians. I want to call on the adherents of the Christian faith to contribute to that so that the government can take itself out of it so that we don’t need to fall on the national budget to do so” he added.
