“We Won’t Postpone The Presidential Primaries” – NDC Deputy General Secretary To Dr. Duffuor

National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaders have refused to postpone this weekend’s presidential primary elections.

Mustapha Gbande, the National Democratic Congress’s Deputy General Secretary, has called out presidential hopeful Dr. Kwabena Duffour for making false assertions that the party’s voter registration for the 2023 elections is inaccurate.

This comes after NDC flagbearer aspirant Dr. Kwabena Duffuor requested the party to postpone the May 13 presidential and parliamentary primaries. According to him, his staff has found certain inconsistencies in the party’s voter registry.

In a letter to the NDC’s General Secretary, Kwabena Duffuor’s team expressed displeasure with the “incomplete and inaccurate” delegates register that was going to be used in the upcoming primaries.

Mr. Gbande, on the other hand, said that the election process and its preceding preparations had been completely fair.

According to him, it is unjust to label the party’s preparations for the elections as inadequate because all that remains is the picture album registry, which the party opted to curate to prevent impersonation.

“Leadership is committed to resolving every issue raised so that we can have a credible election. The credibility of these elections is unquestionable, and the processes are clean enough and the processes are very transparent enough, and we are committed to conducting a credible election that is not questionable. We have guidelines to adhere to, and we are operating on those guidelines. The process is credible and reassuring enough, and all the aspirants are aware of this.”

Mr. Gbande stated that the former Finance Minister’s campaign team members are attempting to cast doubt on the credibility of the primaries scheduled for May 13.

“Dr. Duffour has been furnished with about 80% of the data on the photo album register. You have sat in a meeting where you were given answers and assurances that today the technical team will complete the process, taking into consideration your complaints, and furnish you with the full document, but go behind that to publish half-truths,” Mr. Gbande said.

He added that “the hue and cry of all this, that they don’t have voters registered, is in itself dishonesty. If you have five or six processes leading to an election and you have not complained over all the processes except one, should we say that the entire process is fraud, and for that matter, the election will not be transparent and credible?”
