Why Ghana Music Should Not Be Compared To Nigeria’s – Anne-Sophie Avé

Former French ambassador to Ghana, Anne-Sophie Ave believes it’s inappropriate for the music industry in Ghana and Nigeria to be compared, as the trend has been in recent times.

During an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, as reported by myjoyonline.com, the distinguished diplomat who has been actively promoting Ghanaian music urged critics to adopt an objective perspective and recognize that Nigeria is paving the way for Africa through afrobeats.

Anne further emphasized that Nigeria’s large population has been a significant advantage, contributing to their broader reach compared to their Ghanaian counterparts. The French Diplomat also encouraged Ghanaian artistes to focus on promoting themselves across the continent and globally rather than limiting their potential.

She expatiated her opinion saying;

The comparison doesn’t make sense, yes, it is afrobeats, but let’s look at it like Nigeria is paving the way, is opening the doors for the entire African continent 250 million Nigerians and you know when the music is good numbers don’t matter. It helps because when you come to a country that has 250 million citizens it is easy to hit a million and therefore make money and go out there,” she stated. Is just about promotion, is about being pushed in the media not only in Ghana, it’s great to use the diasporas everywhere in the world, because they are a point of entry into the country, but you have to go beyond that, and conquer the entire country.

Anne-Sophie Avé is a distinguished French diplomat who served as the Ambassador of France to Ghana from September 2018 to August 2022. During her tenure, she hosted a popular TV talk show in Ghana titled ‘Touch of France’ from 2019 to 2021.

Ms. Avé also made significant contributions to the music industry by connecting French artistes Passi and Orti with Ghanaian musicians such as Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Kwabena Kwabena, Becca, Fameye, Akwaboah, and Gasmilla.

Her efforts culminated in the successful organization of the PARIS IN ACCRA concert in November 2021 and the return leg ACCRA IN PARIS on 23 April 2022, which received widespread acclaim from the entire industry.

In addition to her contributions to the music industry, Ms. Avé’s positive impact on the youth of Ghana has been widely praised in the press and on social media for her approachability and genuine concern for the people. Ms. Avé’s exceptional work in Ghana has not only changed the face of diplomacy but also endeared her to the hearts of Ghanaians.
