11 American Celebrity Fans of Arsenal, Including Jay-Z and Jamie Foxx

Each week, 60,000 fans enter the Emirates Stadium through the turnstiles to see Arsenal play. The Gunners are one of the most popular clubs in the world, having over 59 million social media followers.

Wilfried Zaha, Antonio Rudiger, and Fikayo Tomori, among others, have professed their allegiance to the Arsenal FC. Every weekend, though, there are a handful of A-List celebrities who follow the club.

Mikel Arteta’s squad is now in first place in the Premier League and is poised to win their first league championship in in two decades. After years of misery and mediocrity, it is worthwhile to support Arsenal this season.

Check out the most renowned Arsenal fans from the United States of America.

Matt Damon

In 2008, the actor Damon made his football allegiance apparent by writing “Tottenham sucks” on a piece of artwork for a charity auction. The Willow Foundation, a charity founded in the 1960s by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson, requested that celebrities sell off canvases they had created, to which Damon gladly agreed.

Michael Moore

In 2016, the director Moore and fellow Gunner Piers Morgan had a pleasant talk about their shared admiration for the north Londoners. Damon remarked, “Somebody took me to a game at Arsenal a number of years ago and I did not want to go because it looked like a boring game to me,”

“It was amazing. It was a religious experience,” he continued. “I am an Arsenal supporter.”

Jay-Z

Because of his connection with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, the rapper began supporting the club. He once went on record expressing his desire to purchase club shares and even join the board of directors.

In 2010, the singer of “99 Problems” clarified any confusion over his football association.

“It was about five years ago now.”  “When Thierry Henry was at the club I saw him play and I just thought he was an amazing player.

“Ever since then I have been a big fan of the club, following you guys, and still today you play the beautiful football that Thierry did. I think he had a real long term-effect on the team.”

Kevin Costner

Back in 2014, when the Gunners were a regular in the Champions League under Arsene Wenger, Hollywood icon Kevin Costner attended the Gunners’ Premier League triumph over Burnley and professed his admiration for the team.

“I found myself making movies and that often brings me to London and when I get a chance, I like to watch this team,” he said. “I was making Robin Hood 25 years ago and I said ‘I wanted to go see somebody play’ and we came to see Arsenal.

“It was at the old stadium and I can remember being taken with the emotion of it. I don’t pretend to be a super-fan or be very knowledgeable. They’re my team and when I come, I try and see them play.”

Danny DeVito

At the 2019 National Television Awards, ‘Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ star Danny DeVito infamously professed his love for Arsenal. While presenting the prize for best drama performance at the O2, the actor expressed his respect for the club.

“This is a big week for me this week,” he said. “It’s really nice for me to be here. I’ve got tryouts. I’m going to get Petr Cech’s job. Go Arsenal!”

Jamie Foxx

Foxx was significantly involved with the launch of Arsenal’s 2016-17 kit in Los Angeles, as many Arsenal fans will recall. The actor declared his admiration for the team before Santi Cazorla, Hector Bellerin, and Nacho Monreal displayed their new uniforms.

Foxx got up the microphone and repeatedly chanted, “Jamie Foxx is a Gunner, Jamie Foxx is a Gunner,” over and over again.

Andrew Garfield

In 2014, the second Spider-Man was seen wearing a grey hoodie with the initials “AFC” emblazoned on it. The actor, who memorably returned to the red and blue outfit in 2021, will have bragging rights against his colleague Spider-Man, Spurs fan Tom Holland.

Jay Ajayi

During a visit to London in 2015, former running back Ajayi revealed his admiration for the Gunners by wearing the famed red jersey underneath his Dolphins uniform.

In an interview with NFL UK last year, Ajayi could not contain his joy upon meeting his childhood hero Henry. Before discussing a 3-2 loss to Manchester United, the former NFL star was originally rendered speechless upon seeing the Frenchman.

Christian McCaffrey

McCaffrey, the current running back for the San Francisco 49ers, has been a Gooner since the 2019 preseason trip to the United States. The team coached by Unai Emery participated in the International Champions Cup and defeated Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, and Real Madrid.

McCaffrey attended the 3-0 victory over Fiorentina and expressed his support for the club on its social media page. He said: “Arsenal fans, it’s official. A huge announcement from me, Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers running back, I’m officially a Gooner!”

Adam Thielen

In 2017, both the Minnesota Vikings and the Cleveland Browns visited Twickenham. Thielen arrived at the stadium wearing a personalized Arsenal shirt, which he later disclosed he had purchased following the Gunners’ 2-1 victory against Swansea the previous day.

Jaylen Brown

In a 2018 interview with the Guardian, Boston Celtics shooting guard Brown expressed appreciation for the team. Brown, when discussing the possibility of playing in London, maintained he wanted to watch Arsenal play.
“I like Barcelona because of the players they’ve had traditionally – from Ronaldinho to Messi,” he stated. “I really like Arsenal too. I like their tradition, and their diehard fans. I hope to see them in London. I think Thierry Henry is going to be there so I’ll just hit him up and see if I can get some access to the [stadium] tour, get some shots on the field. Last summer I became really close with Thierry. I got to talk to him and we keep up with each other and he gives me advice – about sports and life. He’s one of the all-time greats.”
