9ice Didn’t Invite Me To His Wedding Despite Linking Him With His Wife—Ruggedman

Ruggedman has revealed in a recent interview that despite introducing his colleague, 9ice, to his now ex-wife, Toni Payne, he was not invited to their wedding.

He explained that he was unaware of their wedding date until Payne informed him. Ruggedman, who collaborated with 9ice on his breakthrough single, ‘Ruggedy Baba,’ in 2008, shared this anecdote during a recent interview with renowned media personality Chude Jideonwo.

The rapper recounted receiving a call from 9ice’s ex-wife on a fateful Saturday, informing him that it was their wedding day and that her husband had instructed her not to invite him.

The rap star said; “I introduced 9ice to Toni Payne but 9ice didn’t invite me to his wedding with her. One Saturday morning, I woke up to a call from Toni Payne.

She was like, ‘Ahn ahnn! Where are you now?’ I said, ‘Where am I what? I am at home.’ She said they were getting married that day. I asked her why didn’t she tell me and she said she wanted to but 9ice said she shouldn’t tell me.”

In 1996, 9ice recorded his initial demo, titled “Risi de Alagbaja”. However, it wasn’t until the year 2000 that he unveiled his first official solo track, “Little Money”.

Subsequently, in 2008, 9ice released the single “Gongo Aso”. This song gained immense popularity, leading to his invitation to perform at the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Tribute concert in London during June 2008. As a testament to his talent, he was honored with the Best Hip Hop Artist of the Year award at the MTV Africa Music Awards. Additionally, “Gongo Aso” secured him four more accolades at the 2009 edition of the Hip Hop World Awards held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

These included Album of the Year, Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Rap in Pop Album. Fast forward to 2020, 9ice released another remarkable album titled “Tip of the Iceberg: Episode 1”.

Following a brief hiatus from the music industry, the esteemed Alapomeji Records CEO unveiled the second installment of his album, “Tip of the Iceberg: Episode II”.
