Actress Funke Akindele Loses Mum

Adebanjo Akindele, the mother of Nollywood actress and Jenifa Diary creator, Funke Akindele has reportedly passed away.

The sad news was announced in a statement by Funke’s older sister, Olubunmi Akindele, on February 7, 2023. Their mother allegedly passed away on Tuesday.

The statement reads; “It is with heavy hearts, but in total submission to God Almighty that the Adebanjo And Akindele families announce the passing of their daughter, mother, grandmother and sister, DR. R B ADEBANJO-Akindele, which occurred on Tuesday 07 February 2023.

May her gentle soul begin its rest eternal in peace. Amen. Obsequies in honour of her passing shall be announced in due course”.

Funke’s mother was a medical doctor while the father is a retired school principal. She attended Grace Children’s School, Gbagada, Lagos State. She obtained an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication from the former Ogun State Polytechnic, now known as Moshood Abiola Polytechnic. She earned a Law degree from the University of Lagos.

Akindele shot to fame after appearing in the popular sitcom I Need to Know, which was sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and aired from 1998 to 2002. Funke Akindele played Bisi, a curious but highly intelligent secondary school student. Funke Akindele’s big break came in 2008 when she appeared in the movie Jenifa.
