AFCON Defeat: Ghanaian Fan Arrested For Assaulting Chris Hughton

Ghanaians are still grappling with anguish and disappointment following their unexpected defeat to underdogs Cape Verde in Group B of the ongoing AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast.

In the aftermath of the game, a passionate fan reportedly unleashed his frustration on Black Stars’ coach Chris Hughton. This passionate supporter, whose identity remains undisclosed, physically assaulted Hughton at the team’s hotel in Abidjan.

The incident prompted the immediate intervention of Ghanaian diplomats present at the scene, who successfully rescued Coach Hughton before the assailant was handed over to the police. The motive behind this attack remains a mystery, leaving football enthusiasts perplexed as to why the enraged fan targeted the coach.

Ghanaians’ spirits have been further dampened by the defeat of the Black Stars, as it only reinforces the already low impression people had of the team before the tournament began.

The upcoming match against Egypt holds great significance, as a positive outcome is crucial to avoid an early exit from the AFCON for the third consecutive time.

Seasoned Ghanaian journalist Saddick Adams, popularly known as Sports Obama, brought the unfortunate incident to the attention of the public. Here’s what he shared:
