Chris Hughton Sacked As Ghana Black Stars Coach Following AFCON 2023 Exit
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Chris Hughton has been sacked as the head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, following a disastrous Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) elimination from the group stage.
Hughton‘s side failed to win any of their three group stage matches, losing to Cape Verde and Egypt and drawing with Mozambique.
The GFA released a statement on their official website confirming the decision to sack Hughton, stating that the coach has been relieved of his duties. The Association’s Executive Council has also decided to dissolve the Black Stars technical team. “The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” the association stated

Despite Monday’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Mozambique, where they conceded twice in added time, Ghana had a chance of qualifying for the last-16 as one of the best third-placed teams.
Nonetheless, the three results which would have brought the team back into the last-16 didn’t materialise, as Cameroon beat Gambia 3:2.
The team exits the tournament with two points from three games and minus one goal difference.
