Ailing Nollywood Actor Amaechi Muonagor Begs For Funds For Kidney Transplant In India

Nollywood has been struck with yet another distressing news as a heart-wrenching video of renowned actor Amaechi Muonagor, bedridden and struggling to speak, surfaced online.

This veteran comic actor, famous among his Ghanaian fans for his remarkable onscreen partnership with Aki and Pawpaw, is currently battling kidney disease and requires urgent financial aid to undergo treatment in India.

His fellow actor, Kingsley Orji, has brought his dire situation to the public’s attention, appealing to Nigerians for generous contributions to facilitate his immediate transfer to India for necessary medical care.

Orji revealed that Muonagor has recently left the teaching hospital on his own accord, citing financial limitations, even though he still desperately needs immediate medical care. His condition has greatly affected his ability to speak, necessitating the pressing requirement for a kidney transplant operation.

“It has been a challenging journey. Amaechi has been battling this condition for months now, and the situation has worsened. He urgently needs to undergo a kidney transplant in India,” Orji expressed, visibly concerned.

“Although he recently left the ICU at Nnewi Teaching Hospital due to financial limitations, his condition remains critical. His speech is impaired, and he requires immediate assistance.”

In November 2023, Muonagor first informed fans about his ailment by revealing his battle with paralysis affecting half of his body. “I fell ill suddenly while on a movie set, and it escalated to the point where I couldn’t move or walk on my own. Half of my left leg is paralyzed, and my left hand is immobile“I appeal to kind-hearted individuals to assist me in overcoming this paralysis, which has left me incapacitated,” he said.

Amaechi Muonagor’s predicament comes just days following the unfortunate demise of Mr Ibu in the clutches of death, as he fought against various illnesses and ultimately succumbed to cardiac arrest.

The actor had been grappling with health problems since October 2023 and had undergone several surgeries that ultimately resulted in the amputation of his leg. Nevertheless, reports from his family in November suggested that he was making progress in his recovery.

Recall that the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas Ejezie, confirmed that Ibu had passed away due to a cardiac arrest in a press release.

“I announce with deep sense of grief that Ibu didn’t make it. Mr Ibu suffered a cardiac arrest according to his manager of 24 years, May his soul rest in peace,” Rollas said on his Instagram page.

Ejezie said the loss of Ibu leaves a profound sadness in the hearts of fans worldwide.

He said Ibu with his remarkable talent and unparalleled comedic timing, reshaped the landscape of Nigerian movies, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

“Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Ibu brought immeasurable joy to countless souls through his memorable performances. His infectious laughter and boundless energy transcended screens, bringing smiles to faces in every household across Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
