Akufo-Addo Would Soon Tax Ghanaians For Being In A Relationship – Mahama Ridicules

John Dramani Mahama has ridiculed Nana Akufo Addo and the incessant hardship he has visited on Ghanaians characterised by the unprecedented taxation he has imposed on Ghanaians.

He noted that the Akufo-Addo administration is currently on a taxation binge despite having pledged to transition the nation from taxation to production.

On Friday, March 31, 2023, three recently passed tax legislation received the president’s recent ascent. The Ghana Revenue Authority Bill 2022, the Growth and Sustainability Levy Bill, the Excise Duty Amendment Bill 2022, and the Income Tax Amendment Bill all aim to bring in GHS4 billion annually for the nation.

Their approval by the IMF board was necessary in order to obtain the Fund’s US$3 billion extended loan line to rescue the economy.

During his recent tour to galvanise support for the NDC’s flagbearership slot, John Dramani Mahama noted that given the way Akufo Addo is imposing taxes on Ghanaians recklessly, he will soon tax Ghanaians for being in a relationship.

“Prices at the various supermarkets have skyrocketed; the government has reneged on its promise of moving away from taxation to production, to the extent that even betting is taxed”, the former president observed.

“Almost everything is taxed now,” he bemoaned. He blamed the economic crisis on the Akufo-Addo government’s voracious appetite for borrowing.

“The country wouldn’t have been in this economic mess if the government had not engaged in excessive borrowing. We are now seeking debt forgiveness from external creditors,” Mr Mahama said.

John Dramani Mahama wife

The former Ghana president is married to Lordina Mahama. Lordina is a Ghanaian former First Lady of Ghana who served as first lady from 2012 to 2017. She is married to the fourth President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama. Prior to becoming First Lady, she was the Second Lady of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.

Lordina accompanied her husband on the campaign trails in 2013 and 2017, when he ran for the National Democratic Congress and won, then lost, the election.

In 2008, he was John Atta Mills’ running mate. While first lady, Mahama acted as a role model for women in Ghana and promoted awareness of orphans, suspected witches, breast and cervical cancer, and HIV/AIDS.

The Lordina Mahama Foundation, a nonprofit organization with the tagline “The more we share, the more we have,” is now led by her as president.
