‘American Idol’ Participant Mandisa Found Dead In Her Apartment

Mandisa, the Grammy-winning Christian music artist who rose to fame after competing on “American Idol,” has died at the age of 47.

A spokesperson verified to The Times that the talented singer, originally from California, was discovered deceased in her Tennessee residence.

“At this time, we do not know the cause of death or any further details,” the representative said in a statement. “We ask for your prayers for her family and close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.

K-Love, a Christian radio station, was the first to announce the passing of Mandisa on Friday morning. David Pierce, the station’s chief media officer, commended Mandisa for her unwavering faith in Jesus and God.

“Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it wasno match for the size of her heart,” Pierce said in a statement. “Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles.

Mandisa’s struggles are over. She is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.”

Mandisa Lynn Hundley was born on October 2, 1976. With five Grammy nominations to her name, she achieved her first win in 2014 for her album “Overcomer.”

This remarkable 22-track album also garnered Mandisa a nomination for gospel/contemporary Christian music performance at the 56th Grammy Awards.

Additionally, her collection of Grammys includes two nominations for pop/contemporary gospel album and one for contemporary Christian music album.
