Yvonne Nelson Seeks Help From IMANI Ghana For New Dumsor Protest

Yvonne Nelson has reached out to Franklin Cudjoe, the head of IMANI Ghana, seeking his support for a new protest against the ongoing power outages, commonly known as dumsor.

The renowned actress and filmmaker made a name for herself in the political arena when she successfully organized a massive demonstration in 2015 during the tenure of John Dramani Mahama.

Now, she is planning to stage another protest and hopes to collaborate with IMANI Ghana to recreate the impact they had years ago.

In a tweet, Yvonne Nelson revealed that IMANI Ghana had supported her previous dumsor protest and she desires the same level of support against the current government.

According to her, the present administration has failed to adequately address their concerns and, even worse, is taking the Ghanaian people for granted by neglecting the dumsor situation.

Imani Ghana, can we organize another vigil? Ive been waiting for you to reach out like you did years back. ( your team made our demo a success ) Im reaching out myself.

Background

The vigil organized under the theme Dumsor Must Stop commenced promptly at 4 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the University of Ghana overhead Bridge in Accra.

The event was aimed to shed light on the energy crisis, commonly referred to as dumsor and drew a significant crowd.

Participants, including celebrities and their supporters, marched peacefully from the Legon overhead bridge, carrying candles, torchlights, placards, fridges, and lanterns to voice their concerns.

The ‘Dumsor Must Stop’ campaign, initiated on social media by Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson, garnered widespread support, evident in the large turnout at the vigil.

Over 1,000 attendees used placards and other items to convey their messages to the President, urging immediate action to resolve the power crisis.

Many dressed in black and red attire highlighted the adverse effects of dumsor such as job losses and fatalities due to generator usage.

Notable figures like Yvonne Nelson, Van Vicker, Prince David Osei, Wanlov Kubolor, Efya, DKB, Barima Sidney, Afia Schwarzenegger, and D-Black were instrumental in the success of the vigil.
