Ashanti Region: Clash Between Two Communities Leaves One Person Dead, Others Injured

A clash between the youth of Pankrono and Adabraka Zongo in the Ashanti Region has resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two others.

The incident is believed to be a reprisal of a previous clash that occurred during a community football tournament two years ago, which led to the killing of one person. The tension between the youth in both communities has been simmering since then.

On Wednesday, October 18, after another tournament, Owusu Banahene, aged 27, was allegedly stabbed to death. The youth of Pankrono attempted a reprisal on Thursday, October 19, resulting in two injuries before the police intervened.

The father of the deceased has called for a curfew in the area, expressing concern about the growing conflict between the two communities.

The police have arrested two persons in connection with Banahene’s death, and the Tafo Municipal Assembly has assured the public that they will ensure calm in the communities as the police investigate the matter.

In other news previously shared on Tru News Report, the National House of Chiefs has declined to adopt the revised Dagbon constitution, which was presented to them for approval.

The rejection was based on concerns raised by certain chiefs regarding unresolved boundary issues. In light of this, the House has called for additional stakeholder consultations to address all outstanding territorial matters before the constitution can be adopted.

Naa Puowelle Karbo, Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, made this announcement during a meeting held in Kumasi.

“The National House of Chiefs has decided that they should go back and have some consultation and then come back. We have no problem with the various aspects of the Constitution,” he said.

Reacting to the issue, Muhammad Mumuni, a former Foreign Affairs Minister who served as a consultant to the committee that reviewed the constitution argued that the boundary issues should not stop the adoption of the constitution.
