According to a report from Adomonline, three people who posed as police officers have been apprehended and placed in police custody after patrolling polling stations during the District Assembly and Unit Committee elections in Asawase, Ashanti region.
The prosecution has identified the suspects as Zakari Yakubu, aged 37; Godsway Fiakodzo, aged 24; and Ibrahim Zack, aged 26. These individuals were observed at Sawaba New Site polling stations A and B, pretending to be officers monitoring the electoral process.
The police investigation revealed that the accused were dressed in black attire, equipped with body jackets, pepper sprays, jack knives, and five pairs of handcuffs.
Upon suspicion of impersonation, the police promptly apprehended the three individuals who were wearing bulletproof vests. Additionally, two motorcycles belonging to the accused were seized.
Inspector Frank Osae, the investigator, along with his superiors, ensured a swift court appearance following the arrest of the suspects. The trio appeared before the Prempeh Assembly Hall District Court, where they faced charges of “falsely pretending to be public officers.” Subsequently, they were remanded into police custody. The case has been adjourned until January 6, 2024.
