Assin North By-Election: Fake Soldier Man arrested

The personnel of the Ghana Police Service in the Assin North Constituency have apprehended an unidentified individual wearing a military uniform and claiming to be an officer of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

As voting began in Assin North, the security forces were alerted to his suspicious behaviour, prompting his arrest. The military impostor was apprehended with weapons in his possession, according to 3news.com. Police immediately interrogated and arrested him, and then took him to a nearby station for questioning.

In the meantime, there is a high security presence at Assin North, where voters are heading out in large numbers to cast their vote in a by-election that is being fiercely contested between the parliamentary candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Opoku, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), James Gyake Quayson.

There was a brief moment of chaos at Methodist Primary 1 polling station in Assin Breku after some NDC supporters accused the NPP of allegedly engaging in vote buying.

Some voters at the DA JSS Bereku reported suspicious activity in an apartment near the polling station just 30 minutes before voting began. The voters, believed to be supporters of the NDC thus confronted the persons they suspected to be offering money for votes
