Bench Warrant For Arrest Of CID Boss, Legal Director Rescinded

According to a new report by GHOne TV, the bench warrant, which was issued for the arrest of the CID Boss and the Director of Legal and Prosecutions, has been rescinded.

On April 15, the Accra High Court issued the bench warrant after both officers failed to appear in court for contempt charges.

The order was issued by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, who found evidence that the officers had been properly served by Court officials.

The suit was filed by Sureword Global Outreach, a car rental company, against the Director-General of CID and the Director-General Legal and Prosecution unit.

The court had previously ordered the respondents to release a vehicle belonging to the applicant, but the Police refused to comply and also ignored several summonses from the Court.

However, the bench warrant has now been rescinded.

Background

Based on the available information from the court, on November 14, 2023, the Police confiscated a Toyota Fortuner with license plate 2925-20 due to suspected illicit drugs.

Upon discovering that the driver, Julius Noagbe, had rented the vehicle from Sure Rental, the owners were notified of the impoundment.

Sureword Global Outreach, in its supporting affidavit, clarified that Sure Rental is a related company and should not be held responsible for any illegal activities carried out by its clients during the rental period.

They requested the court to instruct the Police to release the vehicle, highlighting the financial losses incurred by Sure Rental due to the inability to utilize their asset. Despite the Achimota District Court’s order to release the vehicle while investigations continued with Mr. Noagbe in custody, the Police failed to comply, defying the court’s directive.

Consequently, the applicant pursued a contempt case at the High Court, summoning the CID Director General, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie, and the Director General of the Legal and Prosecution unit of the Ghana Police to appear in court.

During the hearing on Monday, April 15, 2024, Counsel for Sureword Global Outreach, Abraham Arthur, urged the court to hold the CID boss and the Director General of the Legal and Prosecution Unit in contempt for disregarding the court’s order.

Emphasizing that everyone must abide by the law, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo issued warrants for the arrest of the two individuals.
