Uproar In Berekum Over Chief’s Decision To Sack US ‘Borga’ Who Invested GHC5Million Into Goat Farming

Kwame HR, a Twitter user, recently shared a distressing story about a young Ghanaian man who had been living in the US but decided to return to Ghana to pursue goat farming.

Despite successfully running his farm for five years and assisting fellow residents in establishing their goat farms, the chief of the town has unexpectedly demanded that he cease his project. This unfortunate turn of events puts the man’s investment at risk.

The tweep shared the message, writing:

This guy returned from US 2 set up a goat farm in Berekum investing Gh5M. He’s been training others to set up their farms, jobs for others. He’s been given 2 weeks to close down his farm bcos the town’s tradition forbids the rearing of goats. Yes, after 5 years

Due to the lack of additional information in the tweet regarding the reason behind the man being asked to stop work abruptly, Tru News Report conducted our investigation to uncover the truth.

It appears that the chief of the town has prohibited the rearing of goats, claiming that the gods in the area have a disdain for them. However, the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs is questioning the justification for the ban on goat rearing in Kutire, Berekum, imposed by a local chief.

Also, Isaac Amoah, the son of one of the goat rearers in the area, is considering taking legal action against the chief’s directive. He alleges that the chief instructed certain individuals to dismantle the goat pen and confiscate the animals.

Isaac claims that if he hadn’t sent money to his family, they would have had nothing to celebrate this Christmas. According to Isaac, there are more pressing matters that the chief should be focusing on instead of the goat issue.

Consequently, he has threatened to challenge the legal basis of the chief’s directive in court. On the other hand, Nana Kwasi Djan Nyarko Abronoma informed Adom FM that all the goats have been removed from the town. He warned that anyone who disobeys the directive will face consequences.

Isaac Amoah, who intends to take legal action, was cautioned to prepare for even harsher punishment as the directive is final. Meanwhile, Pim Ampim Yaw Abebrese, the President of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, informed Joy News that the local chief lacks the authority to make such a unilateral decision.

He stated that the chief should have informed the traditional council, which would then make a collective decision. The council would subsequently notify the district assembly to establish a bylaw that would apply to everyone in the community. He emphasized that a bylaw would be necessary to enforce the ban.
