Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour Puts Tottenham Hotspur Stadium In Hot Water

According to multiple sources, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has violated its license agreement by selling tickets to a fifth Beyoncé concert this year.

Background

The north London sports club may only host six concerts per year at its stadium, per current planning regulations. Before an additional date for Beyoncé’s tour was announced on February 7, Spurs had met their quota with four sold-out Beyoncé events, as well as concerts for the Red Hot Chili Peppers on July 21 and Wizkid on July 29, which means they have exceeded their agreement with Haringey Council and require retrospective approval.

Dana Carlin, cabinet member for planning at Haringey Council, stated that she was “disappointed” by the license violation. She added that the impact on local residents must be “balanced against” their evident enthusiasm for the concerts. To host the additional sold-out performance, stadium officials must submit an additional planning application to Haringey Council.

“The Wizkid concert in July will now need additional planning permission and it is up to Tottenham to follow the rules and get this in place.”

“Tottenham Hotspur have been advised that they must engage with the community, ward councillors and submit a planning application which the council will determine with an open mind. We will continue to advise and work with the club in order to resolve this issue.” Dana Carlin said.

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur is in talks with the council to obtain a special license for the additional sold-out concert but has refused to comment on the matter.

The club has already made a profit on the tickets, as this is the first time many fans have seen the pop star perform live. The violation of the license has sparked controversy among fans and locals, and it remains to be seen what action the council will take.

Penalty for breaching SLA

In the event that the Stadium License Agreement is breached, the Stadium License Agreement stipulates that any sublicense or subcontract must be terminable by the city without penalty or expense to the city. There is no mention of fines for violating this regulation in the FIFA Stadium Safety and Security Regulations.

In accordance with the provisions of Chapter 28 of the General License Law, a body art establishment that violates its subsection is subject to license suspension or revocation and a maximum fine of $2,500 or 2,000 GBP.

Nonetheless, Tottenham Hotspur FC has been fined £20,000 for violating FA Rule E20.1 during its match against Newcastle United for failing to control its players in an orderly manner following an incident in the 31st minute against Newcastle United in October 2022.

In January, Beyoncé made her first live concert appearance in four years, for the inauguration of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Shortly after that, she announced her “RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR 2023″ dates.
