Ghana’s U23 national team, the Black Meteors, will play a friendly match with their Egyptian counterparts in Alexandria on Thursday, June 15, 2023.
To continue their preparations for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations, the team led by Ibrahim Tanko departed for the country of North Africa on Monday.
The Black Meteors will spend the next two weeks in Egypt before moving to Morocco, where the competition will take place. Egypt, the current competition’s champion were placed in Group B with Mali, Gabon, and Niger.
Meanwhile, the Black Meteors have been placed in Group A of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco 2023, together with the host nation Morocco, Congo, and Guinea.
On June 25, 2023, Ghana will play Congo in their opening match before moving on to face Guinea and Morocco in the remaining Group games.
The Black Meteors defeated Algeria 2-1 on aggregate over two legs to clinch their qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The best three teams from the competition will represent Africa at the Olympics, which will be held in Paris in July 2024, and the tournament will act as a qualification for those events.
The Total Energies U23 Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco from June 24–July 8, 2023, will include eight teams.
After defeating Algeria 2-1 on aggregate in a two-legged affair, Ghana secured their spot in the 2023 U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
