Bollywood Director, Nitin Desai Found Dead In His Studio
The lifeless body of famous Bollywood filmmaker Nitin Desai was discovered in his studio close to Mumbai. Police were informed by worried locals at the Karjat residence and found the award-winning filmmaker on the morning of August 2, 2023.
According to sources, he was pronounced dead on the spot. According to local media, a police investigation into the death of the 58-year-old man is still ongoing. Desai won the National Award for Best Art Direction four times and was a renowned personality in Bollywood. Since 2005, he had been in Raigad, Maharashtra, India, where he founded ND Studios and produced many of his most well-liked films.
Desai’s close pal Vinod Tawde told Hindustan Times it was a tragic loss.
He said: “I used to often speak with him.
“It’s very sad to hear about his death.
“I spoke to him the day before.”
On the 1987 television drama Tamas, Desai got his start in the business as an assistant art director. After that, he established a prestigious career that lasted for more than 30 years.
The renowned director’s most popular films include Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), Devdas (2002), and Lagaan (2001). Desai received the Padma Shri in 2016, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour.
He was successful in winning three Filmfare Best Art Direction Awards as well. It occurs at the same time when two followers of a Tollywood actor died after being electrocuted while putting up the celebrity’s birthday banner.

He has acted in movies like Parinda, Khamoshi, Maachis, Baadshah, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, and Raju Chacha over the years, as well as in international productions like Salaam Bombay!, Amok (a French film directed by Joel Farges that earned Desai a nomination for a Primetime Emmy), Jungle Book, Kama Sutra, the Canadian film Such a Long Journey, and Holy Smoke.
In addition, he designed the set for the Star Plus TV series and two sets for the 2008 movie Slumdog Millionaire, including the interior set for the Taj Mahal and the Kaun Banega Crorepati scene.
