British Actor Idris Elba Plans To Construct A Movie Studio In Ghana

British actor Idris Elba has announced his plans to construct a film studio in Ghana as part of a larger effort to establish film production facilities across West Africa.

On Friday, February 3, 2023, the actor known for his role in “Beast of No Nation” met with Ghana’s president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to discuss the idea of constructing a film studio to enable both domestic and foreign film studios to create high-quality films in the country.

He said that they planned and did research to come up with the policy’s parameters. They also tried to find out what international filmmakers need from Ghana.

Idris Elba said that if the country doesn’t have a policy framework, it can have as many movie studios as it wants, but it won’t attract moviemakers.

We realized that policy is where the actual groundwork needs to be laid. We’ve studied the models of South Africa, incredible incentive packages, Greece, Morocco and these are all places where they realize the value of the filmmaking and they’ve brought that policy into play.”

“National Film Authority has done the work and put together a very comprehensive plan to propel Ghana into the forefront. It needs to be robust and competitive to the rest of the world. But We believe for sure and I know you believe this too, its be part of your legacy that you want to leave as well that Ghana should step up in terms of attracting those filmmakers. I think one of the things to just highlight for you is what I want to do personally myself I have a firm that I’m directing and I’m hoping to bring some of that firm to be shoot in Ghana.” he said.
