Campaign For Big Pay For Ghanaian Artistes Started Before Shatta Wale – DJ Mensah

DJ Mensah, during an interview on Kingdom FM Plus, clarified that Shatta Wale was not the first artiste to attempt to revolutionize the payment structure for Ghanaian artists.

While acknowledging Shatta Wale’s contribution to the way Ghanaian artists are compensated after a performance, DJ Mensah revealed that another artiste initiated the movement.

Although DJ Mensah couldn’t recall the name of this artist, he mentioned that the individual reached out to another A-list artists to strategize on forming a strong front and rejecting inadequate remuneration.

Several years ago, before this unnamed artist’s intervention, most top acts in Ghana were paid no more than Ghc 5,000 by promoters. However, everything changed when these artists united and refused to compromise on their worth during show negotiations.

DJ Mensah emphasized that Shatta Wale was not the originator of this movement, but he played a significant role in elevating its prominence.

Reletaeldy, despite the long-standing feud between Blakk Rasta and Shatta Wale, the reggae artist and radio/TV personality recently expressed a wholehearted endorsement for Shatta Wale.

“Shatta Wale changed and monetized Ghanaian music in a way no other musician has ever done,” cantankerous Blakk Rasta recently remarked on Facebook.

As long as Wale wasn’t around, he stated that most artists were only interested in making hits and securing their share of fame without giving any thought to the financial aspect.

He posted, saying,

“A Lot Of Ghanaian Artistes Were Just Satisfied Making Hit Songs And Basking In The Glory Until Shatta Wale Taught Us To Demand Our Financial Worth Too. Graçias.”
