Central Region: Woman Who Faked Her Own Kidnapping Arrested

The police in Assin Fosu, in the Central Region of Ghana, have nabbed a 19-year-old lady named Comfort Aidoo for allegedly orchestrating her own kidnapping.

It is believed that Aidoo collaborated with her boyfriend in order to extort a huge ransom from her parents. Initially portrayed as a victim, Aidoo’s status has now shifted to that of a suspect.

According to her mother, Aidoo contacted a neighbour in Breman Adumanu, located in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District, to inform them of her supposed abduction. In an attempt to secure their daughter’s release, the parents complied with the demands and paid the ransom through a mobile money number provided by the alleged kidnapper. However, as the kidnapper’s story and their daughter’s account did not align, the parents decided to involve the police in the matter.

“We heard the call about our daughter’s kidnapping, and we wanted to inform the police right away but didn’t want to lose our daughter, so we managed to raise money to pay him through the mobile money number and later let the police track the person because we used a Ghana Card to register.”

“So after paying, he told us they would drop her at the roadside, so we went for her, but upon seeing our daughter, we realised that her story was very different from that of the supposed kidnapper,” the mother told Rainbow Radio Accra.
