Chris Hughton Monitors Thomas Partey and Antoine Semenyo At Emirates As He Begins His Black Stars Job

Chris Hughton, the newly appointed coach of Ghana, and George Boateng, his assistant, were at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to watch Thomas Partey and Antoine Semenyo in action when their respective clubs faced each other in the EPL.

Hughton and Boateng watched the Black Stars deputy captain assist Arsenal in their comeback victory over Bournemouth, which resulted in a score of 3-2, giving them a five-point advantage over reigning champions Manchester City.

First-half goals from Thomas Partey and Nelson cut Arsenal’s lead to 2-1, but two late goals from Ben White and Nelson gave the Gunners the victory. Before being replaced, Antoine Semenyo had played for Bournemouth for more than an hour.

Before naming his first squad for the 2023 AFCON doubleheader later this month, Chris Hughton is keeping watch of his players in Europe.

This week, the 64-year-old is scheduled to fly into Ghana in preparation for his formal reveal. In a doubleheader in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series, Hughton’s first game in command of the national team will be against Angola.

Otto Addo, who resigned as head coach of Ghana’s national squad in December 2022, has been replaced as head coach by Chris Hughton.

Hughton previously served as the technical adviser for the Black Stars; his position was made public on Sunday. In less than a year, Addo was the team’s main coach and guided them to World Cup qualification. George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, who were both previously Otto Addo’s aides, will help Hughton.

“The Ghana Football Association has the pleasure to appoint Chris Hughton as Head Coach of the Black Stars following extensive deliberations between the two parties,” a statement on the GFA website read.

“The appointment is in line with the vision of the GFA to continue with the project of building a formidable squad that started with Otto Addo in the lead up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament.”

“Mr. Hughton has been the Technical Advisor of the Black Stars for the past twelve months.”

“The GFA has also decided to maintain Assistant Coaches George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.”

“The three coaches were part of the technical team for the World Cup in Qatar.”

“Details about the duration of the contract and terms of engagement would be announced in due course.”
