Ckay Becomes First African To Become Face Of International Brand, Polo

Ckay has etched his name into the record books after he became the first African artiste to bag an ambassadorial role for international brand, Polo.

In a recently released announcement by the sportswear and fragrance company, Ckay was named the official face of the World of Polo franchise.

Chukwuka Ekweani, better known as Ckay, a Nigerian singer, has been appointed as the first African ambassador for the global company Polo. In a recent announcement by the sportswear and fragrance company, the singer of “Love Nwantiti” was named the official face of the World of Polo franchise.

The statement reads; “The launch of The NEW Polo Oud Eau de Parfum signifies not only an extension of the World of Polo Family, but also an entry into new horizons. This fragrance establishes a prominent presence within niche markets, solidifying Ralph Lauren Fragrances’ credibility within the realm of luxurious perfumery.

As a testament to its global reach and resonance, The Polo Family welcomes its First-ever African as Face of The World of Polo Franchise, the distinguished Nigerian singer-songwriter, CKAY.

His association with The NEW Polo Oud reflects the brand’s commitment to diversity and representation, bridging cultures through the universal language of fragrance. For CKAY, POLO OUD is “PURELY LUXURY, a ROBUST BLEND OF SENSUAL OUD OIL, MYSTERIOUS, RICH, AND INTOXICATING.”

It also announced that the NEW Polo Oud Eau de Parfum will be available at select retailers starting end of September 2023.

Ckay is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer who has deals with Atlantic Records and Warner Music South Africa. He was previously signed to Chocolate City, an independent label service provider affiliated with Warner Music Group’s ADA. In 2019, Chocolate City debuted his international smash song “Love Nwantiti,” also known as “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ahh).”

The song debuted at number one on March 29, 2022, the day the Billboard Afrobeats chart was introduced. It was dubbed “the biggest hit in African history” after being the first African song to ever achieve one billion Spotify streams on May 9, 2022.

During the early part of his international career as Ckay’s manager, Asa Asika signed Ckay to The Plug Entertainment, under management.

Chukwuka Ekweani was born in the Nigerian state of Kaduna, which is in the country’s northwest. He is an Anambra State native of Igbo origin. His father, the choir director of their local church, inspired his passion for music. He was affected by music as a child, which inspired him to study the piano with his father. After that, a friend introduced him to the music-making program Fruity Loops.

Before launching his solo career as CKay, Chukwuka began his musical career as a member of a band that included him and two other bandmates.
