‘Creed III’ Sets Franchise Record With Huge $58 Million Debut

Michael B. Jordan’s much-anticipated “Creed III” has established a new franchise record with its astounding $58.7 million opening weekend.

The film outperformed initial estimates of $36 million to $40 million and dethroned “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, the two-time domestic box office champion.

“Creed” debuted in 2015 with $29.6 million, while its sequel, “Creed II,” debuted in 2018 with $35.5 million. Nonetheless, the third instalment received a boost from outstanding reviews and audience ratings.

Original ticket purchasers assigned the film a CinemaScore of A-. 23% of the audience was white, 28% was Latino, 36% was African American, and 13% was Asian. In addition, it benefited from more expensive IMAX tickets, as 38% of its revenue came from premium big format screens.

“Creed III” is about Adonis Creed’s journey to become a boxing champion while coping with personal difficulties, including parenthood and family legacy. Michael B. Jordan makes his debut as a film director alongside Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad.

Creed III: The Soundtrack, was also released along with the movie. The 18-track album, produced by Dreamville/Interscope Records features some of the best rappers like Dreamville’s own J. Cole and Bas, Ghanaian singer/rapper Black Sherif, Nigerian producer/artiste Kel-P, and Big Sean.

The film’s popularity is attributable to its compelling plot, Michael B. Jordan’s great direction, and high reviews from reviewers and audiences. “Creed III” is anticipated to continue earning well at the box office in the weeks to come, based on its outstanding opening weekend results.
