Dani Alves Death Rumours: His Brother Explains What Happened

A false report circulating online claimed that Dani Alves had taken his own life in prison, causing distress among many. Thankfully, it has been confirmed that the news is not true.

Brazilian and Spanish media outlets have debunked the rumour of the Brazilian footballer’s alleged suicide in a Spanish prison.

Dani Alves’ brother, Ney Alves, posted a video on his Instagram account, refuting the news of his brother’s suicide in prison.

He added, “There are individuals wishing for Dani Alves’ demise after his conviction due to a woman entering the men’s restroom, leading to his imprisonment. Isn’t that sufficient? And now, the most absurd part is that they desire to see him dead.

The news gained traction when Brazilian journalist Paulo Albuquerque, affiliated with the newspaper “O Globo,” shared it on his X profile. In his social media update, he conveyed the information.

“Based on the information I received, Dani Alves killed himself inside the prison.” However, he later clarified that he was not referring to the former player Dani Alves, but rather to his cousin, who was initially missing and rumored to have committed suicide before it was confirmed that he is alive.

Dani Alves was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for the rape of a woman at a nightclub in Spain.

The verdict was delivered on Thursday morning at the Barcelona court, where he had been on trial earlier this month. As a result, the 40-year-old father-of-two will spend his first night behind bars as a convicted sex offender.

Since his arrest in January 2023, he had been held in custody at Brians 2 Prison near the Catalan capital. Alves maintained his innocence during his trial, but admitted to engaging in sexual activity with his 23-year-old accuser in a restroom at the upscale Barcelona nightclub Sutton on December 30, 2022, claiming it was consensual.

The victim of the rape case testified in court that Alves had sexually assaulted her, while her friend, who was present during the incident, described how the victim was in distress after the attack took place in a small bathroom.
