Nkem Owoh is renowned for his rendition of the song “I Go Chop Your Dollar,” which highlights the issue of advance fraud aka yahoo yahoo in Nigeria. This song was prominently featured in the film The Master, in which Owoh portrayed the role of a scammer.
However, the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission banned the song. In 2007, Owoh was apprehended in Amsterdam, Netherlands, specifically in the Bijlmermeer neighbourhood in the Amsterdam Zuidoost borough, following a seven-month investigation by the Dutch police, which was dubbed “Operation Apollo.”
During a musical performance, the police raided the event and arrested 111 individuals on suspicion of lottery fraud and immigration violations, including Owoh.
He was subsequently released. In November 2009, Owoh was abducted in eastern Nigeria, and his captors demanded a ransom of 15 million naira. After his family members allegedly paid a ransom fee of 1.4 million naira, Owoh was released.
