Davido Goes Head-to-Head With Producer Who Called Him Out Over Unpaid Royalties

Davido has reacted decisively to producer Napji’s wild social media allegations regarding unpaid royalties for his work on three of his biggest songs in 2020.

Napji claimed to have produced Fem, Jowo, and Sunlight for Davido’s album ‘A Better Time,’ but has not received any royalties. Davido has now fired back at Napji’s claims.

Taking to his Twitter page on Tuesday, Napji wrote: “I am Napji, producer behind Fem, Jowo and Sunlight on @davido album (A better time).

Which was released 13th November 2020. I was paid an advance of 500 thousand naira for each of the songs. I will be releasing more information as I seek to collect my royalties & publishing.”

Davido, who was incensed, chose not to confirm or deny Napji’s allegation but instead directed his anger towards him and his father.

Davido simply wrote; “Ur papa”.

Davido’s third studio album, A Better Time, was released on November 13, 2020. It was a collaborative effort between Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), RCA Records, and Sony Music.

The album boasted an impressive lineup of guest appearances, including Nicki Minaj, Nas, Young Thug, Mayorkun, Chris Brown, Tiwa Savage, Mugeez, CKay, Lil Baby, Hit-Boy, Sho Madjozi, Bella Shmurda, and Sauti Sol.

The production of the album was skillfully handled by renowned producers such as Hit-Boy, Napji, Fresh VDM, Peruzzi, and Speroach Beatz, among others.

Interestingly, Davido had not initially planned to release an album in 2020 due to his scheduled North American tour in support of his 2019 album, A Good Time.

However, the unforeseen circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of his tour, prompting Davido to return to the studio and create the tracks that eventually formed A Better Time.
