Death Threats Forced Me To ‘Run Away’ From Social Media

Wendy Shay explained that the unpredictable nature of social media was a key factor in her decision to delegate her online presence to her team.

The singer shared that early in her career, she received death threats without cause. During an interview on Hitz FM, Wendy Shay disclosed that she encountered significant criticism and negativity from people who used fake accounts to intimidate her online.

She expressed frustration at being unable to identify or track down these trolls, noting that some accounts were specifically made to target her. As a result, Wendy Shay chose to refrain from engaging with messages on social media platforms.

“I faced a lot of backlash when I started music. I had death threats and all of that on social media when I came into the industry.

You can’t even find them. We traced some of the accounts and realized that most of them were accounts that were created just to bully me,” she said.

“I got a message from Trilla, and at that time it was new, and they wanted to put me on, but I missed it. That’s why we decided that I’m going to have my team members also have logins into my account,” she added.

Wendy Shay’s musical journey began when she was introduced to music by Rufftown Records Manager Bullet and signed in January 2018 following the tragic passing of labelmate Ebony Reigns. On June 1, 2018, Wendy Shay released her debut single “Uber Driver”, which was produced by MOG Beatz. The song was accompanied by an official video released on the same day.

Throughout her career, Wendy Shay has graced the stage at various events such as Miss Ghana 2018 Finals, RTP Awards Africa 2018, and the BF Suma Ghana Connect 18 concert.

She was honoured with the title of Discovery of the Year at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and has received nominations for multiple awards, including Breakthrough Of The Year and Best New Artiste of the Year at various ceremonies. Additionally, she performed at Ghana’s Afronation Music Festival in December 2019.
